A group of 15 experts collected lists of up to 50 suggested compositions by female jazzcomposers in their assigned regions, covering all European countries between January 20, 2025 and September 20, 2025. Each expert initially signed a letter of agreement detailing the selection criteria developed by the group of experts, the expected timeline, and the initial collection process and geographic region. The selection criteria, assigned regions and expert names, and definitions of jazz styles were detailed in the document New Standards for Europe Selection Criteria, delivered on January 20, 2025. All experts were provided with the same spreadsheet template gathering information on the composition name, composer name, country represented, stylistic description, link to a recording, website, contact info, and notes on the historical, cultural, popular significance of the selected piece and composer. The completed spreadsheets were collected by September 20 and collated into a combined spreadsheet by support personnel Lea Elisa Glenz and Theresa Pell at Jam Music Lab University. During the final compilation phase, they also conducted a criteria check, thus excluding suggestions that did not conform to the list of criteria, i.e. selections by composers who reside outside of Europe, compositions with male co-composers, etc. All experts received the final compilation by October 1 with the assignment to listen to all selections for an initial quality evaluation in preparation for the selection meeting at Jam Music Lab in Vienna.
